A TIP FOR MY FELLOW WRITERS
Many of my followers on Twitter and on this blog are also writers. Perhaps you’re a reader who thinks you could become a writer. I’m not going to get on my soap box just yet, so here’s just one short tip I believe will help your writing. Let’s start one at a time, eh?
Don’t underestimate yourself. You must have a command of English, otherwise you wouldn’t want to be a writer, so why dumb your writing down?
For example, don’t just say – David left the room angrily.
Emphasise his emotion, allowing the reader to work out he’s angry – David’s face contorted, crippling his composure. He stood, his feet crushing discarded peanuts on the floor. As he crossed the room, ornaments shook, plaster shuddered. The door slammed behind him.
The latter isn’t perfect, but it’s a more interesting read than the former.
“Poor David,” thinks your reader. “He must be pissed.”
Come back for my next writing tip, when I’ll completely contradict this one and suggest to you that “less is more.”
THE UNCERTAIN CUCKOLD
The Uncertain Cuckold was published on the 24th October 2012. I have received private messages, tweets and e-mails from readers who have said they really enjoyed it. It appears my readers are a little reluctant to publish their opinions publicly, which I completely respect.
I thank you all for reading, for passing recommendations for the book via word of mouth and of course a further thank you goes to the reviewers who have placed 5 star reviews on Amazon UK and Smashwords. If you have read the novel and wish to leave a review, please visit the vendor where you purchased your copy.
THE CHRISTMAS EXHIBITION (including cover reveal)
The Christmas Exhibition is coming along very well indeed. I’m pleased with the progress made. Having just taken a quick break from the writing to update my blog, a word count reveals its current word length at 25,068. The Uncertain Cuckold was 90,000.
The Christmas Exhibition is a prequel novella – which will be out in December – featuring Matt and Jill very early in their relationship. It begins with Jill out on her work Christmas dinner, while Matt waits patiently in her house for her to return. His jealousy and imagination – what a horrific combination in this young man’s mind – wreak havoc with him, but nothing compares to the enthralling truth Jill reveals upon her return.
I’m saying nothing more than that about the plot just yet!
The cover has been designed. I’m very happy with it. It is in keeping with the design of my previous novel, yet independent enough to be established as a different story and seasonal enough to be in keeping with Christmas.
It will be published November 28th 2012, well in time for Christmas.
Don’t miss it!
And finally, please, if you read it and like it, please leave a review.
THE UNWILLING CUCKOLD
As soon as I finish writing The Christmas Exhibition, I will continue my work on The Unwilling Cuckold, the sequel to The Uncertain Cuckold. Don’t worry that it will be a long wait. It won’t. I’m a very productive writer, hammering out 2,000 words a day regularly if I’m not interrupted by… She we do not speak of.
So expect to see Unwilling in early 2013.
Would you like a hint or two of things to come? Okay, but no spoilers!
We find out why Matt hasn’t been working. We see more of that sexy MILF neighbour Francesca. Gary’s ex-wife Jen makes an appearance. And dare I say the word… Dogging?
Thank you for reading, if you are. If you’re still reading this, then you must be. Thanks! I really appreciate you taking the time.
